4. Teaching Practice

4.1 Procedures of Teaching

Teaching procedures generally follow the teaching plan. The lesson starts with the daily routine like greeting, praying, checking the cleanliness, and checking the attendance. After that, the teacher will review the previous topic, give them motivation, tell the topic/focus, tell the learning objectives, and then activate their prior knowledge. After the preliminaries, the teacher will demonstrate the topic and continue to the activities. The teacher can give a group activity, pair activity, or individual activity. After the activities, the students will have broadening of concept, integration, and summary/action. The teacher can give them assignment to enrich their knowledge. At the end of the class, they will end the class by praying.

4.2 Time Management and Organizing Activities

Teaching management is one of the important thing for the teacher, because good time management will give a good learning process. In this school, I have only 60 minutes per section to teach. I allocate 3 minutes for the daily routine, 7 minutes for the preliminaries, 10 minutes for demonstrate the topic, 25 minutes for the activities, 15 minutes for broadening of concept, integration, summary/action, note the assignment, and praying.

4.3 Problem Solving

When I teach, sometimes I find some problems. That problems are the students are very noisy, lost their focus, chit-chat with their friend, sleep, and play. If I find one of that problems, I will say ‘Hello Class! May I have your attention please!’ If it doesn’t work, I will ask the noisy student about the topic. If the class is full of troubles, so I will minus everyone who is noisy.
If they feel so bored, I will say something funny to refresh them. Sometimes, if I find the student who can’t give the right answer, I will not directly say ‘It isn’t correct!” but I will say ‘Nice try!’ and then I will correct the answer. If I find the student who can give the right answer, I will give them scores and say “Very good!’

4.4 Classroom Management

Manage the class is also very important for the teacher. To make a good class management, I must give a clear instruction. So, before they start everything I will make sure they are listening to me. To make my instruction more efficient, I usually bring a microphone from my cooperating teacher. At first, it was difficult to manage the class. But my cooperating teacher said ‘Remember you are the teacher, you are the one who can handle them!’ His words built my passion as a teacher and after that I can handled them better.
